Six Pack Abs | What is the Rectus Abdominis muscle?

The rectus abdominis (six pack) is actually one muscle not 6 different muscles. The muscle has six partitions that gives the effect of 6 seperate muscles.

The partitions consists of fibrous bands that's called tendinous inscriptions. The purpose of the rectus abdominus is for bending your upper body above the waist.
