First of all you get two two sets of oblique muscles:
1. External Obliques
2. Internal Obliques
The external are used when you twist, tilt side to side or bend your body. It is the muscles at the sides of you waist. Strong obliques help with picking up of heavy objects. They also help with your posture and to keep your body upright. Provides lower back support. In sport like gholf your external obliques plays a major part in the gholf swing.
The internal obliques are underneath external obliques. They enclose your organs. They also help with twisting and side bends.
